Twelve Growth Phases (十二運星)

The twelve life-cycle phases through which each Heavenly Stem passes in each Earthly Branch — determining the Day Master's strength.

"Your Energy Stage as Seen Through Your Day Pillar" (5 posts)

In saju, every element goes through a cycle: birth, growth, decline, and death.

That cycle is the Twelve Life Stages (十二運星).

By looking at which stage your Day Master sits in relative to the Day Branch,

you can see the essential nature of the energy you were born with.

長生 · 沐浴 · 冠帶 · 建祿 · 帝旺 · 衰 · 病 · 死 · 墓 · 絶 · 胎 · 養

— twelve distinct stages.

🧵 (1/5)

建祿 · 帝旺 — The Strongest Energy

建祿: The energy of a fully matured adult.

A strong sense of self and powerful independence.

Driven, and forges their own path.

帝旺: Peak power. The blade of the saju.

This stage is also called Blade of the Sheep (羊刃).

Decisiveness, charisma, bold execution.

The downside: energy so intense that wealth can be hard to accumulate.

People with 建祿 or 帝旺 in the Day Branch:

better suited to leading than working under others.

🧵 (2/5)

沐浴 · 冠帶 — Charm and Confidence

沐浴: The stage of being bathed right after birth.

Rich in sensitivity and magnetically attractive.

Connected to the "Peach Blossom" energy.

Artistic, but prone to emotional swings and temptation.

冠帶: Growing into confidence.

Places high value on appearance and social standing.

Sociable and lively.

Can be prone to boasting, but talent usually backs it up.

🧵 (3/5)

絶 · 墓 · 胎 — Between Dissolution and Rebirth

: Complete dissolution.

Weak foundations, frequent changes.

Prone to job-hopping, relocating, and difficulty settling down.

But: "after 絶 comes 胎" — the seed of a new beginning is planted.

: Stored in the vault.

Natural talent for accumulating wealth.

Introverted, with deep, thorough thinking.

The downside: can be prone to fixation and stubbornness.

胎 · 養: Conception and preparation for growth.

Still in the preparation stage — great latent potential.

Standalone 1 — Your Energy Nature as Seen Through Your Day Branch

What Twelve Life Stage your Day Branch (日支) holds relative to your Day Master:

甲寅 Day Pillar → 建祿: independent and strong-willed

甲子 Day Pillar → 沐浴: rich in sensitivity, many romantic connections

庚申 Day Pillar → 建祿: decisiveness and drive at their peak

丙午 Day Pillar → 帝旺: passion and charisma

壬子 Day Pillar → 帝旺: strong intellect and iron resolve

The Twelve Life Stage of your Day Branch is the innate quality of your energy.

Standalone 2 — Why You Should Watch Out for 墓運 (Tomb Luck)

When a specific element — tied to a Six Relative — falls into 墓

during a major or annual luck cycle, that period is called 墓運.

Wealth element (財星) enters 墓 → money gets tied up or lost

Officer element (官星) enters 墓 → career or spouse-related stagnation

Seal element (印星) enters 墓 → opportunities and studies feel blocked

墓運 isn't about things disappearing — it's about things being buried.

After it passes, what was buried often remains as accumulated foundation.

Standalone 3 — Charts That Have 羊刃 (Blade of the Sheep)

The 帝旺 stage is called 羊刃 (Blade of the Sheep).

People who carry 羊刃:

their energy is as sharp as a blade.

Used well → military, surgery, sports, entrepreneurship

Used poorly → impulsive decisions, friction with others

Even with 羊刃, if the Officer element (官星) restrains it, the energy is channeled auspiciously.

When 七殺 (偏官) and 羊刃 appear together → 殺刃相停.

Considered a powerful structure for overcoming adversity.
